Stand With Myanmar
Most countries are protecting individual dignity, freedom, and equality. However, in February 2021, a coup took place in Myanmar, killing a large numbers of people. Myanmar is still suffering from resistance to the coup.
Myanmar is a country located between the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia and the Indian continent. Myanmar became a British colony in 1885 and became a stronghold of the Asian colonies, and on the 4th January 1948, it gained independence from the United Kingdom and became the Union of Burma. It was renamed Union of Myanmar in 1989 and renamed Republic of the Union of Myanmar in November 2010.
According to Myanmar's long history of military dictatorship, the military, that took power in a coup in 1962, has been dictatorial and influential to its citizens for 53 years, for having military telecommunications, banks, and TV networks.
In addition, the military made it possible to automatically allocate 25 percent of all parliamentary seats and revised the constitution by creating a clause that states that a state of emergency can be declared at any time. In the event of a national emergency, the president was forced to transfer all power to a military commander.
Myanmar's citizens did not give up for the long period of time and resisted the military. In the process, more than 3,000 people were killed in 1988 and hundreds in 2007. After such persistent resistance, Myanmar had a free election in 2015, which led to the establishment of a democratic government. However, the democratic government failed to revise the constitution changed by the military.
When the ruling party won a landslide victory in the general election held in November 2020, the military declared a national emergency, raising suspicions of rigged elections. In response, the military claimed that it took national responsibility under the Constitution, and angry Myanmar citizens staged massive protests against the military coup and campaigned for civil disobedience.
The civil disobedience movement is “not to engage in one's job in one's job,” and as an example, a civil servant is a resistance movement that collapses the national system by not doing his or her job as a civil servant.
However, at least 70 people have been killed and more than 100 were injured as police fired live ammunition at civic protesters. Myanmar, that had entered a democratic path after the 2015 election, was thrown into chaos again in just six years.
In the past, the Republic of Korea also had the same experience. “May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement” for democratization. The May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement is a democratization movement in South Korea was centered on Gwangju citizens and Jeollanam-do residents. On May 18, 1980, It demanded the establishment of a democratic government as soon as possible, the resignation of new military forces and the abolition of martial law. The pro-democracy movement is also believed to have influenced democratic movements in other countries. I hope that we, who have suffered the same pain, will sympathize with Myanmar's democratization movement and pay much attention to it and able to help.
