An Interview with a Foreign Student, Linh

 There are many foreign students from various countries on campus. However, it is not easy for us to have conversations with foreign students due to differences in language and culture. That's why we do not know much about them. Through this interview, I hope that the students in our school will be interested and learn more about them.

Q. Please introduce yourself simply.

A. Hello. I am Nguyen Vu Dieu Linh[Nguyễn Vũ Diệu Linh] from Hanoi, Vietnam. I am 22 years old, and I am majoring in media culture.

Q. What are you learning at school?

A. In the Department of Media Culture I learn about video aesthetics and media storytelling techniques. And I also learn about video shooting.

Q. Have you had any good experiences while studying abroad?

A. I am very happy to have made many foreign friends, including people from Mongolia, Cambodia, the Philippines and Bangladesh. It has also been nice that the professors have helped me to adapt to school.

Q. Are there any difficulties in studying abroad?

A. All classes are taught in Korean, so it is hard to follow classes compared to Korean students. And it was hard to adapt to school at the beginning of my studying abroad. But I was able to meet friendly Korean students through the Buddy Program, and this helped me to adapt.

Q. Is there any way to understand Korean well?

A. I have many conversations with my Korean friends, and I am taking many classes in Korean.

Q. What do you think about the dormitory?

A. The facilities of the dormitory are good. In particular, it is good to be able to control the temperature of the room. I also like the fact that I can go out whenever I have a dormitory card. However, the dormitories for foreigners seem small because eight people use one room.

Q. What are your plans after graduation?

A. After graduation, I will go to graduate school to get a master's degree. And I will go back to Vietnam to create a TV program with many kids because I like children.

Q. Do you have any advice for the new foreign students on campus?

A. Learning Korean language is very helpful to adapt to Korea. I also hope that you will have the courage to overcome tension and fear.

 교내에는 우리와 함께 공부하는 다양한 국적의 외국인유학생들이 많이 있다. 하지만 우리는 언어와 문화의 차이로 유학생들과 대화를 나누기가 쉽지 않아서 그들에 대해 잘 알지 못하고 있다. 유학생과의 인터뷰를 담은 이 기사를 통해 교내 학생들이 유학생들에게 관심을 갖고 그들에 대해 알아가는 계기가 됐으면 좋겠다.

Q. 간단히 자기소개 해 주세요.

A. 안녕하세요. 저는 베트남 하노이에서 온 응엔 부디에링(Nguyễn Vũ Diệu Linh)입니다. 현재 22살이고 미디어문화학과에 재학 중입니다.

Q. 학교에서 무엇을 배우고 계신가요?

A. 제가 다니고 있는 미디어문화학과는 영상미학에 대해 평가를 하고 미디어의 스토리텔링기법에 대해 배우는 학과입니다. 또 저희 과에서는 직접 영상촬영을 하기도 합니다.

Q. 유학생활하면서 좋았던 사건이 있나요?

A. 몽골, 캄보디아, 필리핀, 방글라데시 등 다양한 외국인 친구들을 만날 수 있어서 너무 기쁘게 생각합니다. 또 제가 유학생활에 적응하는데 교수님들이 잘 도와주셔서 감사했습니다.

Q. 유학생활을 하는데 힘든 점이 있나요?

A. 수업이 한국어로 진행되다보니 수업을 따라가기 어렵습니다. 그리고 유학초기에는 학교에 적응하기가 힘들었습니다. 하지만 유학생의 적응을 도와주는 버디프로그램을 통해 친절한 한국학생들도 만날 수 있었고 적응에 많은 도움이 됐습니다.

Q. 한국어를 잘하시는데 비결이 있나요?

A. 한국어 수업을 듣고 한국친구들과 만나다보니 잘 할 수 있게 되었습니다.

Q. 생활관에 대해 어떻게 생각하시나요?

A. 저는 생활관의 시설에 대해 만족합니다. 특히 방의 온도를 제 맘대로 조절할 수 있어서 좋습니다. 그리고 생활관카드만 있으면 언제든지 출입할 수 있다는 점도 마음에 듭니다. 하지만 외국인생활관은 한방에 8명이 생활하다보니 방이 작게 느껴집니다.

Q. 졸업 후 계획이 무엇인가요?

A. 대학원에 진학해서 석사학위를 취득할 계획을 가지고 있습니다. 그리고 제가 아이들을 좋아하기 때문에 석사학위 취득 후에 베트남으로 돌아가서 아이들이 출연하는 TV프로그램을 만들고 싶습니다.

Q. 교내의 외국인신입생들에게 하고 싶은 조언이 있다면?

A. 한국말을 열심히 배우는 것이 유학생활에 적응하는데 매우 도움이 됩니다. 또 가족과 떨어져 살게 되기 때문에 긴장되고 불안하실 텐데 용기를 가지셨으면 좋겠습니다.
