Our national holiday Chuseok passed last month, and it is October now so there is Gaecheonjeol and Hangul Day. Both Gaechonjeol and Hangul Day are so meaningful to us. Let's find out more about these meaningful days.

First, Gaecheonjoel is a national holiday established to commemorate the founding of Gojoseon, the first Korean nation. Gaechonjeol is on October 3rd, and was established in memory of the founding by Dangun on October 3rd of the original lunar month in 2333 B.C. ‘Gaecheon’ means the sky is open, so according to mythology, Hwanwoong, the son of the sky‘s god, came from heaven under the new Dansu of Taebaek Mountain. That day brought Hongik humanitarianism and people began to declare their thoughts based this idea. And in the case of Gojoseon, we cannot help but talk about the myth of Dangun. Dangun's mother named Woongnyeo, was a bear, but she wanted to be a human being. His father, Hwanwoong, said that she could become a human if she ate garlic and mugwort for 100 days. You may know this story well, the bear succeed to be a human and she is Dangun’s mother.

Gaechonjeol is special enough to be the 5th National Holiday, and it is the day to learn the mythical roots and origins of our people. Why don't you express the spirit of your country through Taegeukgi?

Next, let's take a look at Hangul Proclamation Day. Hunminjeongeum was distributed to the world in 1446, during the 28th year of King Sejong's reign, after three years of trials that were completed in 1443 A.D. Hangul is a creative letter system developed under King Sejong. Hangul is purposefully designed and easy to learn, and it has been a great help to reduce the illiteracy of the past. Thanks to the invention of Han-gul, we had to borrowed Chinese characters and used Korean words in accordance with Chinese grammar in the past. It was so difficult to our ancestors. And now, we have special and magical Hangul, therefore, it is possible to achieve development in various fields such as culture, economy and politics as it is today. Therefore, it was possible to achieve development in various fields such as culture, economy and politics.

Hangul Day is a memorial day to celebrate the creation and proclamation of Hangul and to honor the excellence and merit of Hangul. After Korea became "gwangbok" in 1945, Hangul Day was established for October 9th on the solar calendar. Korea had an extremely high illiteracy rate until after its independence. However, since Hangul was invented, communication with people became smooth. Without letters, it is difficult to acquire knowledge and promote life and culture because there is no exchange of information except through speech. The reason why Korea has been able to secure international status on various educational and economic metrics today is because of the power of the Korean Hangul. It is for this reason that Hangul Day is a national holiday, honoring the invention of Hangul and its excellence, and promising the development of Hangul and the Korean language.

Recently, the importance of Hangul has been overshadowed by the deconstruction of spelling and frequent use of foreign words. To celebrate Hangeul Day, I hope you will love and learn Korean more.
