Due to the cold weather, more people rush to take out winter clothes and wear them. Particularly, whenever the wind blows strongly, I often feel that winter has come. Now that the weather is getting colder, people spend their winter in many ways, such as traveling or eating warm food. This time, I would like to introduce foods that can be easily enjoyed on the streets in winter.

First, there's ▶ bungeo-ppang. Bungeo-ppang is a type of carp-shaped waffle with fillings. It is a favorite snack in winter, and is commonly found in street vendors. It is made by pouring watery flour dough into a metal mold shaped like fish-shaped or nuts-shaped and filled with red bean paste or custard cream. But it is usually contain red bean paste. Today it is made with various ingredients such as pizza, vegetables, cheese, cream cheese, sweet potatoes, chocolate, and ice cream, and is sold in various forms, ranging from small mini bungeo-ppang to carp-shaped ones. Bungeo-ppang originated from Taiyaki, a Japanese grass bread that appeared in the late 19th century. It is believed to have entered Korea in the 1930s. Taiyaki means "domi bread," and as the name suggests, it is a bread shaped like a sea bream. In addition to red bean paste, meat and vegetables are also used as a substitutes for meals. In the past, sea bream was an expensive and precious fish in Japan. But Taiyaki started to imitate its shape and eat it as bread. In Korea, as flour came in large quantities in the 1950s due to American grain aid, it was called grass bread, and it was eaten in the form of a dough with red bean paste and grilled in a round shape, such as chrysanthemum bread and fish-shaped bun. Bungeo-ppang has become popular in earnest since the 1990s, and is still called a representative winter snack today.

The second is ▶ Hotteok. Hotteok is a snack eaten in Korea and China, kneaded with flour or glutinous rice, put sugar inside, and pressed flat to bake. Hotteok is popular for its chewy rice cake part made of strong flour and the sweet taste of cow made with sugar. When eating, you usually fold the thick paper cut into rectangles in half and eat hotteok. As you eat, hot oil and sugar water may flow out. So these days, there are more places to replace them with paper cups. It is made not only with flour, but also with glutinous rice dough. It is generally more chewy made of glutinous rice. In particular, glutinous rice flour dough over flour dough can shorten the time to marinate the dough, so it is preferred by business owners. Of course, there are still many people who prefer flour because of the savory taste of flour dough. Cinnamon powder and brown sugar are usually added to the hotteok, and often nuts are crushed into small pieces to prevent dissolved sugar water from flowing. Usually, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds are added, to add crunchy taste when eating. The one with only peanuts is called a general hotteok, and the one filled with sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds is called a seed hotteok.

In this way, I recognized street food that can be enjoyed in winter. Since it is a street food, it is less financially burdensome than other foods, and you can warm up at a low price. So it would be good to enjoy street food at least once. I hope you overcome the cold by eating street food in the weather that is getting colder.
