The Ocean Practice of Kunsan University

On June 23, sixty juniors and seniors of the College of Marine Science of Kunsan National University went on board for the thirty-day ocean practice upon the departing ceremony at the Yeokmuseon Dock in Gunsan.

According to the Kunsan National University, sixty students in the Department of Marine Production and Department of Mechanical and Power Engineering  sailedthe waters of up to 1580 miles from Gunsan to Fukuoka, Qingdao and Dalian and returned to Gunsan on July 21. In addition to improving the adaptability of life on board, they will acquire comprehensive technical and practical knowledge of sailing and fishing, and ship agency.

The name of the ship owned by is Haelim, a large vessel that weighs 1,424 ton.

In this voyage, students acquired skills and qualities as ship officers including ocean weather ship maintenance, coordination and navigation technologies, including the application of the ship, regulations and laws, regulations, a subsidiary organ, and the rules of the internal combustion engine education.

Professor Kim Minseon, who supervised this ocean practice on board, left a remark " for a month through practice, students on board have acquired general information about the system and I think they will be able to improve their qualification as ship officers." He also added '' students will be able to meet necessary requirement to become the third mates and the third engineers through two years of in-class education and one year of practice on board.”

군산대학교 해양과학대학 3·4학년 재학생 60명이 6월 23일 군산 역무선 부두에서 출항식을 갖고 원양승선실습을 위한 30일간의 항해를 했다.

'군산대학교'에 따르면, 7월 21일까지 해양생산학과와 동력기계시스템공학과 재학생 60명이 군산, 후쿠오카, 청도, 대련, 군산에 이르는 1580마일의 해역을 항해했다. 또 승선생활에 대한 적응력을 향상시키고 항해와 어업, 선박기관에 대하여 종합적인 기술 및 실무지식을 습득한다.

배는 군산대학교가 보유하고 있는 1424t급 대형 선박인 '해림호'이다.

이번 실습에서 학생들은 계기, 해양기상 등 항해관련 기술, 선박정비조정과 관련된 운용학, 어업 및 법규, 선박의 내연기관, 보조기관, 규정에 대하여 교육 및 실습을 통해 해기사로서의 자질을 갖추게 된다.

원양승선실습에 동반한 김민선 교수는 “한달 동안의 승선실습을 통해 학생들이 선박운항과 기관운전에 대한 자신감과 친밀감을 기르고 선박 시스템에 대한 전반적인 정보도 습득해 해기사로서의 자질을 높일 수 있을 것으로 본다.” 면서 “실습을 마친 전공 관련 학생들은 교육 2년, 실습 1년 포함 총 3년의 승선경력을 인정받아 해기사(어선3급 항해사, 3급 기관사) 면허취득 요건을 구비하게 된다.”고 말했다.
