Interviews of Foreign Students at Gunsan University

1. Please introduce yourself

Hi. My name is Meng Ran Liu (梦冉). I come from China. I have been in Korea for 2 years. I’m 22 years old in Korean age. My major is in the Department of English Language and Literature and I am in the second grade.

2. Why did you come to Kunsan University?

The first reason is I was interested in a Korea broadcasting culture when I was a student. In particular, I was into a Korea idol group, EXO. I watched a lot of Korean broadcasts several times. And then, I learned about Korea naturally.

Second reason is I wanted to learn  overseas. Because I enjoyed learning language. Among the countries, My high school teacher recommended Korea so I decided Kunsan University which is sister university.

3. How do you study Korean?

First, I have watched Korea broadcasting since I was a student. It’s not one time but several that I watch each broadcast. This allows me to listen to Korean conversation. I recommend watching broadcasts in your area of interest first.

Second, I talk with my Korean friends. This way is the most effective. I have friends who have same interest as me. So I talk about our interest with them a lot. I recommend looking for a Korean student of the same interests as you.

4. What is the most interesting class in Kunsan University?

I was interested in the subject that Professor Adam Coates teaches. The classes are ‘English conversation’ and ‘English composition’ When I came the university first, I can’t understand class about language but these subjects are understood easily. Besides, this subjects have various topics, which is impressive for me. I will learn ‘global issue’ which is taught by Professor Adam Coates next semester. I look forward to this class.

5. What is your goal in korea?

My dream is to be a translator. First or all, I hope I want to be good at Korean and study well the subjects of the department. And then, I would like to go to a graduate school of interpretation and translation. It may be hard, but I really want to achieve it. Second, I have a part-time job, so I don't have much time. If I earn money and have time, I am going to travel in Korea a lot.
